| As everybody knows, angels and fairies get at least one thing in common : as soon as a birth is happening on earth, a guardian angel and a fairy are sent to take care of the newborn baby. The stars in the sky were shining so much, the carols in the air were playing so much, all around the lady was a harbinger of the Christmas day. Nonetheless, the Christmas joy suddenly forsook her. Sad thoughts flowed into her mind. The Christmas night was already glowing all around her. But during this holly night, all the angels were working to celebrate Christmas, all the fairies were bustling for Christmas too. Surely, there would be no more angel, no more fairy, above the cradle of her own baby ... The poor mother knew that a guardian angel is sent for each birth, but she allowed herself to be convinced that, because of Christmas, her child's guardian angel would forget ... She was so bruised by such a thought, that she began to weep. But the Christmas grace turned each tear into a crystal drop, which was tinkling while falling down. This sweet but sad music woke up the hearted fairy, who recognized immediately human tears. Who could cry so much during this Christmas night ? The fairy lady whispered gentle words in the ear of the poor mother to dry her tears, and then she could strike up a conversation. So she found out what had made the mother cry - lest the guardian angel forgot ... Of course the fairy lady knew that at least one angel and a fairy stay above the cradle for every birth. She couldn't imagine that neither the guardian angel nor any fairy could ever forget ! Christmas grace would never allow such a thing ! She swore an oath that both angels and fairies, in all their glory, would be there at the right time. Then she made herself scarce. The mother trusted the fairy and she let her be carried away to the land of Nod. At the crack of dawn, while the starlit night was fading away and the fiery sky was growing, she awakened to the Christmas day. And then she realized that all the angels and all the fairies were already around, welded all together to accomplish their mission. The Christmas pulchritude was glowing through them all. The Christmas grace was flowing from them all. And the child was blessed ... |
