| The weather was so fine that they wanted to spend the afternoon out for a walk. In fact, the eldest wanted so, and her little brother agreed. As a matter of fact, the girl was up to something. The two children walked quietly in the village, then they took the path which led to the chapel, at nearly two km from the village. While they were walking, the girl explained her aim to her little brother : a friend of hers had told her that there was a crypt under the chapel, and surely there would be interesting things, why ever not a treasure ? The girl was convinced that she would find a mean to penetrate into this crypt. They searched through the brushwood, and they discovered a large hole at the bottom of one of the chapel wall. The girl was getting excited ! She broke a piece of branch and put it inside the hole : there was space under the hole, so under the ground, there was really a crypt under the chapel ! She was so excited that she didn't think at all before slipping into the hole, fortunately the ground was not very lower ; she switched on her torch, while the little boy was jumping down into the crypt too. She made the light run all over the walls, it seemed there was nothing on the walls, but then she found a switch, without hesitation the intrepid girl turned on the light : the room was perfectly illuminated. Then the two children began to search what "treasure" they could find. The room was utterly empty except a great crucifix hung on one of the stone walls, and which seemed to be looking at them gently. The boy began to feel disappointed : there was nothing interesting at all ... But the girl refused to acknowledge herself beaten, she remembered she had read stories where one or several stones of a wall could be moving and hide secret things ... She convinced her brother to help her, and they tried to make move each stone of the wall, stone by stone, at least all these they could reach : none of them could be moved ... The boy was more and more disappointed and hassled his sister to return home. The girl had to yield to the clearness, there was really nothing interesting ... But she saw the stairs, a long stone stairs which led to a door, some light could be seen at the bottom of the door ; she decided to climb up the stairs and fortunately, the door was closed by an inside bolt, no key was needed, so they could open the door. They went outside, among bushwood, while the chapel was a few meters behind them. Would they discover something interesting here ? They searched, but they didn't find anything. The girl refused to admitt she could have been wrong, by the way it was more interesting that only a walk in the country, wasn't it ? But the boy was still feeling bad, he regretted to have followed his fearless sister. The two children came back home and had another activity, they forgot quickly this adventure which in fact wasn't really an adventure. 28/08/11 Isabelle Coquinot |
