F O R A LITTLE F A I RY OF M I N E

I heard a song (in French) about a fairy and inevitably that made me think of the one who has been a little fairy inside my home during a few months ; although I named a sister of hers with a word that means "fairy", she was the one I said she was my little fairy. She was meant to be the beloved darling of my fairy Gidan, but fate decided otherwise. Though so many years have elapsed since then, I still feel regret, I still miss her. So let me scribble a few words for a little Fairy of mine - my mourned Verline.

I once had a girl, a fairy girl, inside my home. Do you think the fairies were born from a fairy mother ? I thought so too till she came in my home through the earthly body of her quite earthly mother. So at the beginning I couldn't know she was a fairy. She seemed to be like anyone else. But she wasn't. Once she threw off the mask. And at last I realized. It was as if two selves were living in one body. If you had looked at her, you might have thought she was quite normal, with nothing more than anyone else. But had you seen her dancing gracefully amongst the garden gnomes, or playing gently with the dragonflies among the flowers, or talking learnedly with a few fledglings in a tree, and sometimes hinting at the hinterland, well then, maybe you would have understood ... But perhaps you would have thought that it was just a pose. With the benefit of hindsight, I surely know it wasn't. To the lay mind it could seem complicated, even laborious, to understand what I mean, by the way how could I track down the proper words to sketch her ? Would you believe it, but with the passage of time, I'm convinced that this sweet fairy was just what the doctor ordered. She was meant to live love's dream with my marvellous Gidan, and how many happy years could they have shared together ? I always lavish praise on Gidan, and - would you still believe it - I can't imagine that a fairy running around an angel like Gidan could have given rise to nothing else than dreamy happenings ... It's a poor do ! Did Carabossa, the wicked fairy, lay a curse on mine ? Fate did for my sweet fairy ... Straightaway the golden river had run dry ... Not the ghost of a runnel can't be discerned since she reached the next world ... And so, to cut a long story short, I'm still missing this little fairy of mine .... 07/03/11 Isabelle Coquinot
