THE   DRAGON   AND  THE   WEE  LASSIE
Borkye has always been both a fine, charming, open, joyful and self-confident character, and a rather dominant one. He would readily throw his weight around ... And he did with his siblings when they were pups, especially with his sisters : he could easily consider that he was bigger and stronger than them, yes he was, BUT ...
Once upon a time there was a dragon living in the sea near the beach. Within living memory, he had always been here, he had always terrified all people and animals on the beach and in the sea, and he had never been killed by anyone too. When people came on the beach or sometimes in the sea, he appeared quickly to terrorize them, so they fled far away. But in one of the village near this beach, there was too a wee lassie. She was so tiny and seemed to be so frail that every one was inclined to protect her. However, she wasn't weak at all, and contrary to all expectations, she wasn't afraid of the sea monster. She even didn't understand why all people was terrified. Of course, like all the children in the whole country, she wasn't allowed to reach the Dragon Beach, as it was called. But one day, as she was alone at home, she decided to go there. She was playing quietly with the sand when the dragon appeared suddenly from the sea, just near her. He roared loudly and violently, but she took not the slightest notice of him. He roared again, but in vain. The he asked her why she didn't fear and flee. - Dear dragon, I'm not such a dummy ! I'm not sure that you're able to come out of water and walk on the sand, but I'm completely sure that if you ever would do, I would run faster than you would ! Why would I be afraid of you ? You can't reach me ! The dragon was disconcerted and didn't find any right word to say. The wee lassie continued : - Poor dragon, why do you terrorize people ? - I have fun to see them flee away with so much fear inside their soul ! But why do you call me "poor" ? The wee lassie was always beaming gentleness and sweetness all around her. She spoke with the more gentle voice that she could : - Dear dragon, don't you know, you're one of the more stupid dragon in the world ! The dragon threw a tantrum, but he didn't know what to answer. The wee lassie continued, always with a gentle voice : - Don't you understand what a thickie you are to terrify people ? If you were gentle with anyone, all people would come all day long to talk with you, to play with you, to bring you food and even titbits, you would be our friend and you would love you. Instead of this, you're alone inside the sea and people hate you ... The dragon disappeared suddenly inside the water. Was he so much offended or so much touched ? But since that moment, nobody in the country never saw him again. People could reach the beach and even the sea without making him come up from the water.   They thought that he had left the area, some said that he was too offended and that he preferred to meet new people that he could terrorized again. But the wee lassie, who was a kind-hearted soul, said that the dragon went away to reach people who wouldn't fear him so he could become a gentle and friendly dragon for ever. 19/06/07 Isabelle Coquinot
